Wk 9.2 Animation and Audio

Animatic

This was the first animatic Lauren made with our very first storyboard. We soon realised that we needed to get on with drawing the full storyboard frame by frame so that we could get the pacing right and see if the length was still going to be what we thought it would.

Storyboard Redrawn

We decided to cut the bird mostly out of the start, and at this stage we are cutting it from the end when it brings in the text about Warren Maxwell. We are thinking that the bat is enough movement, and that the viewers need to have nothing distracting them from the text so that they have enough time to focus and read what it says. I also am thinking that we need to pause on the text longer at this stage.

Illustrations

Lauren's characters

Ellie's backgrounds

To be honest I am not super happy with my land illustration at the moment. It seems too dark and creepy..
The water one I am happy with! :) will talk with Lauren about what to do with land one...

Poster

Both of us collaborated on this poster, which came together fairly painlessly after we had decided what text we needed there, and which illustration to use as the image. The hardest thing for us was making it not look like the cover of a children's book. We resolved this by using a graphic, distressed font, as the cleaner fonts made it seem like a story book.

I downloaded the Bats logo from Google, and masked it in Photoshop.

These were the fonts that we liked. We ended up using Salvation for the main title, and Cotton for the rest of the text, although we trialled Futura, Metallophile Sp8, Times New Roman, Avenir and Helvetica.

Website

Using inspiration form Lauren and my collected artist examples I began refining the design of the site using filler text and images. This is an initial design which we can work on and develop through the project. Once we have our imager for our animatic and poster sorted I will bring some of it into the site, As well as refining the colour palette. A key thing to focus on in this site is layering and depth within scroll layers.

I am struggling with getting the text to stay stationary on the screen whilst the images move in the background. I use a fixed position while scrolling tool, however the text still needs to scroll as it is longer than the standard web browser size.
