Animatic
I finished up the background illustration, then imported it into After Effects. The bushes look so small and crowded because the size of the page is A2 and we are zooming in really close for each shot. Having one background also makes the panning of the camera more smooth and continuous.
When I imported this file, I realised it had a LOT of layers. This was super confusing in After Effects as the layers were all individually named, but finding the ones I wanted was a long process. I ended up going back into Photoshop and merging a bunch of the layers that didn't need to move or be separate from the background. Things like the water textures, the grass and the tree trunk were merged. I also merged most of the seaweed, which I realise now was a mistake as I need the fish to swim behind it, but that's not a huge issue, I'll just have to redraw it.
I continued on with the animatic in class today, but I ended up encountering an issue that meant a lot of the work I had done, needed to be redone. The issue I was having is that every time I repositioned and scaled the background image, it would effect the points were I had it in previous keyframes. Andre suggested I resolve this by using hold keyframes, which seems to be doing the trick at the moment.
Over the weekend I progressed the animation by adding in the dragonfly, the seaweed for the fish to swim behind and the fish jumping. I still have a lot more work to do though as the movements are not at the level I want them, and there are a whole bunch of layers missing from the background. I think I will try to get everything into the animation, and then start to work on the finer detail things, like making the movements more fluid and natural.
Website
I got help from our lecturer Tim on some of my issues with Figma and got scrolling text to work, using overflow scroll behaviour settings on frames, rather than shapes/text boxes.
I realised that across a few of my pages the links and menus weren't working because I had duplicates lying underneath them and these were being connected to the pages rather than the other elements I had crafted. This was an ongoing issue which I had to go back and fix multiple times!
I finally got everything linked! So this is the base layout/function of the site in action. My next steps were to start reflecting back on our website artist models and brining in our existing illustrations and a more exciting colour themes! Below are some screenshots of some of my tests, the dark blue needs a tad more work but getting the initial site took up way more time than anticipated. Will keep working on this throughout next week hopefully.
