Animatic

In class today I added in all the leaves and bush layers, as well as panning the background out to the point where we meet the bat for the first time.

I still have a LOT of work to do with the leaves and all those layers which are moving around like crazy at the moment, but I wanted to get more components into the composition before I went back and fixed this up. We do have another interim next class though, so before then I think I'll have a go at resolving some of the issues that are bothering me such as this. I also want to make the fish swimming upwards a bit smoother, and less like it's died and is floating up.

Before the interim I did a bit more work on the animation and got all of the components in. I'm happy about this as it means I can now go back and make all of the transitions and movements smoother.

Website

This weeks work on the site was productive, I went through a range of iterations for the design of the site before settling on the final one in the video below.

Posters

Ellie

During today's studio I mocked up a hand full of posters for us to present next week and get feedback on moving forward.

I then simplified it down and chose this poster to present for the interim

Lauren

These are all the iterations I went through while creating a poster for the interim.
I began with looking at having the fish on the poster and sort of having them interact with the type but swimming over and underneath it.

I trialled adding in some abstract colour but this didn't really work in my opinion so I continued with the plain background. Also the fish get lost on that colour of pink. At this point the names of the plays are at the bottom.

I decide to move the names of the plays up to the top as I think they get lost down the bottom and it is actually important information. Also trying out some lines in between each play for separation. I begin to play with breaking up the title into parts. At the moment the text in the middle is just floating, I haven't gotten to placing that anywhere yet.

Removing the fish and trying out a more leafy design.

Decided to go with this and filled up the whole bottom of the page with plants to show the overgrowth/regrowth message. I like how the drawings overlap the title to show the idea of depth.

Putting a frame around the title as Ellie had this in some of her previous posters and Andre & Klaus both liked the effect. I also wanted this poster to be a series with Ellie's and I think the frame connects them. Starting to think about placement of that floating type too.

Placement of type changes here.

Trying a sort of overrule type thing over the play titles, and having the smaller type on the left side.

Left the type where it is for the moment and started to think about if the dark blue is the best colour or not.

Back to the blue, just without the overrule.

The secondary text is slightly smaller here. I'm trying to align it up with Nature of Man so it doesn't spill over too much into the 2nd column.

Since the secondary text is quite long, I decided to move the longest play title to the right and put them both there. This seems to work, and this is the poster that I printed.

Other styles I briefly looked at but then chose not to continue with.
